last night beginning of poem

Across the Water

You can't stop them from seeing this.
They scream from the porch.
A cottonmouth moves across the water.
The burglar unlatches the gate.
The elepant ears listen the sound of his feet.
The roof rat is moving in the branches of the maple.

Comments:
Sweet! I love that visual, regional style. Deep South, to be sure. I used to live there. Have had my share of cottonmouths and elephant ears.
How's it end?

it's more like a hurricane than it is a gentle breeze.
